Vitamin Angels Launches Continuing Medical Education Course on Nutrition in Pregnancy

Vitamin Angels is pleased to announce Nutrition in Pregnancy, a free, online continuing education course designed to improve knowledge and competencies among healthcare professionals delivering maternal nutrition interventions, especially during routine antenatal care.

The course was designed for healthcare professionals working in the context of antenatal care (ANC)—particularly in low-resource settings—and provides a comprehensive overview of the importance of nutrition in pregnancy and how to implement evidence-based maternal nutrition interventions in the context of ANC.

The Nutrition in Pregnancy Course presents key maternal nutrition interventions as per World Health Organization recommendations, offers implementation guidance to design & scale maternal nutrition interventions in ANC, and awards Continuing Education Credits for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, and other healthcare providers.

The course is taught by leading global public health nutrition experts and can be completed in just ~1.5 hours.

Key Topics Covered Include:

  • The impact of nutritional status in pregnancy on maternal and child health outcomes
  • The physiological changes during pregnancy that result in increased nutritional needs
  • The importance of healthy diet/lifestyle, adequate gestational weight gain, and micronutrient supplementation in pregnancy
  • The key evidence-based nutrition interventions within global antenatal care guidelines and application guidance for health service delivery

In addition to the course’s core modules, locally-accredited country case studies showcase maternal nutrition trends and delve into context-specific policies and programs related to maternal nutrition and antenatal care.

This course enables the expansion of critical nutrition interventions and works to advance health equity and improve maternal, infant, and young child health.
