Santa Barbara, CA – Vitamin Angels, a charity that provides nutritional support to children and mothers in need, has received another coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation’s premier charity evaluator. Vitamin Angels’ year-over-year excellence in financial health, accountability and transparency places the organization above 94% of the 8,000 charities reviewed by Charity Navigator.
“For 21 years now, Vitamin Angels has been helping improve the lives of children and moms around the world,” said Howard Schiffer, president and founder of Vitamin Angels. “We always strive to reach as many children and moms as possible, so being prudent, efficient and effective with our resources is of paramount importance. Getting another 4-star rating from Charity Navigator is confirmation of our fiscal responsibility; it lets our donors know that we honor their contributions and are fulfilling on our promise to the children and moms who most need our help.”
Charity Navigator’s new 2.1 evaluation standards use objective, data-driven analyses to award only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. The charity evaluator – whose methodology is applauded by Forbes, Business Week and others – uses 17 metrics, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness.
“Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that Vitamin Angels exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in [its] area of work,” states Michael Thatcher, President & CEO of Charity Navigator in the letter advising of the award. “Only 6% of the charities we evaluate received at least 5 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Vitamin Angels outperforms most other charities in America.”
Vitamin Angels’ fiscal responsibility is illustrated through its efficient use of funds. The charity’s cost to provide one child with lifesaving vitamins for an entire year is just 25 cents. Later this month, Vitamin Angels will be engaging families to leverage the power of a quarter by fundraising through its Summer of Savings initiative. The initiative is designed to educate children on the value of money management, health and nutrition, and give them an opportunity to learn more about their peers around the world.
