About Vitamin Angels

Vitamin Angels (VA) is a US-based, international non-governmental organization whose mission is to help at-risk populations in need – specifically pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five – gain access to lifesaving and life changing vitamins and minerals. To fulfill this mission, we provide annual grants of vitamin A supplements, deworming medication and multivitamins to NGOs that work with children 6-59 months old and/or pregnant women.

Role or Purpose of the Position

VA seeks a dedicated, part-time Haiti-based Independent Contractor (e.g. Consultant) to support increased programs needs in the area of communications and outreach. VA currently grants micronutrient commodities to a network of more than 50 active program partners including non-governmental organizations (NGOS) and the Ministry of Health (MSPP). In 2023, VA program partner organizations in Haiti connected over 750,000 children under 5 with vitamin A, deworming, and 221,462 pregnant women with multiple micronutirent supplements (MMS). Under the direction of the Haiti Country Director Consultant, the Public Relations Officer Consultant will contribute to VA’s continued growth and success in Haiti by connecting actively with the program stakeholders and the Haitian public at large.

Responsibilities

Assist in engaging in advocacy and outreach efforts to build-up an enabling environment for the implementation of VA supported nutrition interventions (as appropriate) in Haiti among key stakeholders, including government, academia, and NGOs. Consultant will provide support to:

  • Identify and engage key stakeholders, including NGOs, international NGOs, academia, local businesses/philanthropies, and government at municipal and state level
  • Raise awareness and building consensus among key stakeholders regarding the benefits and effective use of VA supported interventions at public or health related community events;
  • Explore opportunities to support program partners with capacity building and program strengthening and networking (i.e. the VA Alliance).

Assist Country Director and Haiti team in developing and implementing a national level communication strategy to support the implementation of VA supported nutrition interventions (as appropriate). Consultant will provide support to:

  • Develop a written/official communication strategy for Haiti for internal use
  • Manage and content creation of social media and digital communications channels (Facebook, WhatsApp, etc) for program partners
  • Participate in national/regional stakeholder meetings or conferences to advocate and promote nutrition evidence-based interventions supported by VA
  • Promote the scale-up of multiple micronutrient supplementation strategies throughout Haiti

Support in developing and implementing a national level marketing strategy to support the implementation of VA supported nutrition interventions (as appropriate). Consultant will provide support in:

  • Ensure internal and external alignment of the brand and identity of VA utilizing HQ tools and guidelines.
  • When appropriate, establish and maintain contacts with media houses, both French and Haitian Kreyol– regional, national, and international – and manage in-country press conferences, news briefings, media interviews, visits, and public events.
  • Ensure consistency of media messaging, including monitoring that VA’s media, logo, and other protocols are followed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:

  • Fluent in French and Haitian Kreyol;
  • B.A./B.Sc degree from an accredited four-year university in Public Health, Health Policy, Public Policy, International Development, Nutrition, or related field;
  • A minimum of progressively two years of experience in Public Health;
  • Computer literacy and technologically-savvy, including experience writing and developping communication materials;
  • Remote but preferably based in Haiti
  • Superior written and oral communications skills; and
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail. and

Highly desirable:

  • General professional proficiency English level
  • Experience working and/or volunteering with an NGO/community based organization and with MSPP.
