2019 Year in Review

In our 25th Anniversary year, we made incredible progress in our efforts to improve and protect the health of every mother, every child, everywhere. Here are a few of our highlights in 2019:

  • Reached hard to reach populations in every U.S. state and 70 countries worldwide.
     
  • Partnered with governments and 1,600 local organizations to fill gaps in coverage through:
    • Engaging in advocacy and advisory services
      • Participating in and co-chairing internationally recognized meetings that raised awareness and contributed to advancing MMS policy, including: the Women Deliver Conference and the ACN Conference. 
         
    • Providing technical assistance
      • Supporting adherence to best practices by improving and expanding our training tools for service providers; and measuring outputs and outcomes through routine monitoring and coverage surveys.
         
    • Delivering evidence-based nutrition interventions
      • Continuing and expanding our efforts, serving approximately 70 million mothers and children with:
        • Multiple micronutrient supplements (prenatal multivitamins) for pregnant women 
        • Vitamin A supplementation and deworming for children under 5
          • Our efforts in this area were recognized with the award of GiveWell Grant for Global Health and Development in Southeast Asia and Bangladesh.
        • Supplementary feeding for preschool-age children
        • Information for pregnant women and new mothers on optimal infant and young child feeding practices
           
  • Key advances toward our goal to eliminate newborn mortality by scaling up our multiple micronutrient supplementation program, included:
    • Reaching 2 million women globally (a 300% increase from 2018), including 200,000 women domestically
    • Announcing a $7.5M Pledge to Improve Global Maternal Health and Birth Outcomes by 2022 at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Goalkeepers event. 
    • Focusing on creating demand, ensuring a global supply, and influencing policy change regarding prenatal multivitamins in low and middle-income countries.
       
  • Celebrated major milestones with our corporate partners, including Walgreens, The Vitamin Shoppe, SmartyPants and Sprouts Farmer’s Market.
     
  • Earned accolades for our financial accountability and transparency, specifically 4-stars from Charity Navigator and GuideStar’s Platinum Seal of Transparency.
