Prenatal Multivitamin Program in the United States
Vitamin Angels supports partners with nutrition solutions for women, infants, and children in the US, including a free prenatal multivitamin
grant program, technical support for our program providers, and educational materials.

Connecting Your Community with Free Prenatal Multivitamins
Vitamin Angels is a global public health organization that provides nutrition solutions to pregnant women, infants, and young children in 65 countries, including a robust program in the US that reaches more than 500,000 underserved women each year across all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands.
In the US, one of the ways we support women and children is by offering free grants of prenatal multivitamins to our diverse network of community partners. The success of our US programming relies on the expertise of our program partners, including Federally Qualified Health Centers, health departments, WIC agencies, and other organizations reaching underserved women and children. In addition to free prenatal multivitamins, we offer technical support to these partners and educational materials for the women and children they serve.
Why?
Prenatal multivitamins can improve pregnancy and birth outcomes, setting a woman and her baby up for fewer complications and a greater chance to thrive.
It is recommended that a prenatal multivitamin containing iron and folic acid be taken daily during pregnancy. In the US, it is also recommended that anyone who may become pregnant begin taking a multivitamin containing folic acid in the months leading up to pregnancy. Yet, only 34% of women report taking a prenatal vitamin before they knew they were pregnant, dropping further to 27% for Hispanic women and to 10% for Black women.
Since nearly half of pregnancies in the US are unplanned, providing prenatal multivitamins to women who may become or are currently pregnant — including those trying to conceive, currently pregnant, postpartum, lactating, or otherwise capable of pregnancy — is a tangible way to fill the gaps in maternal nutrition and support healthy pregnancies and births in your community.

Each bottle of prenatal multivitamins provides a six-month supply and is formulated to be safe and effective throughout pregnancy. Each daily dose includes 15 essential vitamins and minerals to support the increased nutritional needs of pregnancy and meets rigorous global standards and FDA regulations. The formulation also fulfills recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) during pregnancy, including the CDC’s recommendation of 400 mcg folic acid daily for low-risk pregnancies.
The prenatal multivitamins distributed through the US grant program are manufactured specifically for Vitamin Angels by either ProCaps Laboratories or Contract Pharmacal Corporation, meeting the highest international quality standards and FDA requirements. Both products are Halal certified and gluten-free. The ProCaps version is a bovine-based gelatin capsule, while the Contract Pharmacal Corporation version is a gelatin-free tablet.
